Who are some fiction authors with strong libertarian themes in their work?

I am a libertarian and I am searching for some authors with strong libertarian themes in their work, fiction of course.

1. I would like your answer to exclude Heinlein and Rand, since I already have read a lot of their work and they are just too cliche.

2. Also leave out Orwell and any of those other books critical of dictatorship, because Orwell was a democratic socialist and any of his works, not to mention Brave New World, Fahrenheit 451, The Giver, etc. can find sympathy from anybody, not just libertarians.

I think F. Paul Wilson wrote books on that theme. Not really sure if he’s libertarian.

  2. Tyler Golding Said:

Libertarian is a very broad and amorphous term which means many different things to many different people.
I also have no idea how to suggest books that appeal to “just libertarians”. Talk about niche publishing!
That being said, you might enjoy Ken Kesey’s Sometimes A Great Notion and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.
I would also recommend checking out The Dogs of March by Ernest Hebert and The Beach by Alex Garland.
Though none of these books are libertarian treatises in any way, they all contain themes and elements which should interest you.

The author you want is undoubtedly Robert Anton Wilson. A good place to start is the Illuminatus! trilogy, which he coauthored with Robert Shea.

Others worth mentioning include William Burroughs and Eric Frank Russell. And H.G. Wells utopian novel Men Like Gods.
