What is the chance to get a graduate job if I still writting my dissertation?
Hi..currently I’m writting my dissertation until end of jan ’07, however I started to apply to some graduate jobs, coz I’m so bored and wanted to work asap.. On my CV I write I have finished all my modules, got a bachelor dgree, and has 1.5 year work experience..
Do you think the company would accept student that hasnt finished their studying? Is there any students or people that ever been accepted for graduate job while still studying??
I got a graduate job whilst I was still working on my dissertation, but that was about 10 years ago, and they only took me on for 20 hours a week (to give me time to work on my dissertation). I ended up turning in my dissertation 2 months early, and then worked full time for the company. In my case, I was very lucky, as working for the company allowed me to expand on my dissertation.
Try other jobs too (not just with companies who run graduate schemes) – for example, if you did something internet related, apply for any company that needs designers or developers. They won’t always specify in job adverts that they only take on graduates, but believe me, most places only take on graduates. (or people like yourselves who have finished your studies, got your module results in, and are just finishing off a dissertation).
Part of my job is to recruit graduates for our in house graduate scheme, and we readily accept graduates that are still studying, its part of the terms of the job offer – that they fulfil their studying commitments.
Look at it this way – when we recruit managers, sometimes they have to give up to 3 months notice, so recruitment can generally take a while anyway – graduate or non graduate.
