When we are taught penmanship in the early grades of school, we are taught to slant our paper right to left. This is in awkward position for people of the left handed persuasion. Secondly, when a person writes with their right hand, the hand is moving “forward” out of range of the ink. A person who writes left handed moves “over” the ink. Finally, different areas of the brain control whether we write left handed or right handed. This tends to make right handers lean towards flourishes and left handers to lean towards less or no flourishes.

It’s all in how you choose to write, however. I have seen some beautiful left handed penmanship and I work with a gal who is right handed and whose penmanship looks like chicken scratch!
