You cold try Ian McEwan Enduring Love (literary enough to be a set text for A level) with its many references to psychology and Darwinism, and sciences opposition to religion. What about HG Wells, "Brave New World" would be another possible oh and Gallileo (there is one play by Brecht and I have a feeling also one by Stoppard) and of course Frankenstein also springs to mind

I'd suggest The War of the Worlds by H.G Wells. It's very scientific, and draws up questions pertaining to religion and the end of the world, as well as the place and role of humans in the world. I'd also suggest The Da Vinci Code, and I am Legend.

Dan Brown is the obivious choice--poor choice though he is. I would recommend Michael Crichton instead, or Ray Bradbury.

I think that Brave New World by Aldous Huxley has some great commentary on the relationship of science and religion.

Well, a good mainstream fiction example of this would be The Da Vinci code and Angels and Demons by Dan Brown. Possibly especially Angels and Demons, because the plot is about a guy who is murdered after trying to prove the existence of god through physics.

Good luck.
