After school arts, activity and drama clubs: What type of club would your kids like to join?

What activities and events would children between the ages of 1-11 like?

What type of club would they like to join? Drama, arts etc?

How much do you think is a reasonable price to pay for such a club for perhaps 2 hrs at the weekend or in the evening.

As a parent what would you like to see in a childrens club and what would you be looking for in deciding if your child(ren) will attend?

In a nutshell describe your perfect kids club.

Thanks,
F.

My sons school runs after school clubs for free. He has just started netball which is played by both sexes. there is also a games club for the Yu Gi Oh and Pokemon card lovers as well as Nintendo ds, etc. There are arts and crafts, French, Chess and all sorts. They are all very popular.

Most schools have some type of clubs that your kids could join after school. Maybe get your kids interested in an instrument anyone is fun Trumpet, sax, clarinet, there are many more if you get them lessons it takes up time after school. I’m not sure what the going price for lessons are, but if you search around I’m sure you’ll be able to figure out what a reasonable price is.

My kids participate in after school drama club (grades 4-6) and puppet club (grades 3-4). In both cases the clubs are free to the participant.

The school district pays the two drama club co-directors each about $300 as a supplimental for their extra time; the group meets for one hour a week after school, for about 18 weeks. They also do a couple of fundraisers with the kids to pay for scripts, costumes, supplies. The final product is a play or musical about 45 minutes long.

With the puppet club, that was grant funded- so if you are looking for something to get involoved with in the community in the arts, check into local theatre and arts foundations, you may be eligible for $$ if you are bringing a new arts activity to a community. They use the puppets like in sesame street/ avenue Q etc- the good ones! All of the puppets were funded with this grant, as well as several scripts (I think they got close to $1000) This works hand in hand with reading and acting since the kids do not have to memorize, but read and manipulate the puppet.

My kids also take dance and acro classes (yes my boys and girls!!); their studio also teaches a ton of hip hop classes these are very popular to boys and girls, and also have a big exercise element. The classes usually $$ monthly, about $30 per kid/ per class.

Well, when I was in Primary School I was in the Drama, Art, Netball, Football, Basketball, Athletics, Rounders, Swimming First Aid clubs and this other club where you did activities which gave you an insight into Secondary School.

But that’s just me. I loved everything especially clubs which involved loads of practical based activities. Kids like to get up and go. Well, most do anyway.

I think young kids prefer clubs where they can be with their friends, have a laugh and do something which they may not normally do.
